Cities and districts

The office's cities and their districts: units and projects are filed under them, and the site's area pages are made of them.

What it is for

Every unit and project is in a city, and may be in one of its districts. The names here are what a visitor sees on the site and searches for.

Who uses it

The page opens for whoever holds “View cities and districts”, to look only, or “Manage cities, districts and types”, to work in it. In the built-in roles: Owner, Manager, Team member, Agent, Marketing. They are granted to any role under Settings → Roles and permissions.

Step by step

  1. Press “+ Add city”, type its name as people search for it, then save.
  2. Open the city, then “+ Add district” for its districts.
  3. To add many areas: “Import” from an Excel file, the city then the district on each row.
  4. Give each city a short introduction, and a title and description for search results.

How it works

A name is never repeated: one the same as an existing name, or nearly so, is refused, and a district is compared with its own city's districts only. A page's address is made from the first name once, and does not change when the name is corrected, so search engines' links are never lost. Deleting deactivates: units stay filed under the city, and it is restored from “Deleted”. Every change is written to the action log by its field names, not their values.

On the page

  • “+ Add city”: the name.
  • “Import” cities and districts from an Excel file.

Questions

Why was a new city's name refused?
The office has a city with the same name or one very close to it; correct that one rather than adding a second.
Does a city's address change when I rename it?
No. The address is fixed from the day it is added.
